Clear Day
DEPOT DANCERS NEWSLETTER - JANUARY 29TH.  2006

Good morning all.

I hope you all had a great weekend and found time for some rest and relaxation.

This week is a good one for all Country Music fans!  The top-four bands are all playing within a reasonable drive - here's the scoop!

At Cowboy Country (Long Beach) - http://www.cowboycountry.mu/  Doo Wah Riders are playing Wednesday and Saturday this week.

At The Swallows on Friday,  you have SwingShift - and on Saturday,  the really hot Working Cowboy Band!

And as you know,  because I have banged the drum so hard that it needs a new skin,  on Wednesday at McClure's the Working Cowboy Band are playing this week and every week for the next few weeks at least.

Our Monday nights are going well and Tom is our DJ this week.  Next week,  Doug is back for two weeks which includes the Valentine's Party on the 13th.  Our parties usually do very well and I personally really enjoy them.  The theme is "FLASHY,  TRASHY or CLASSY"  So dress up,  dress down or just come as you are.

At Christmas and last week,  the raffle with a selection of prizes was very popular.  The prizes were donated by our members.  I would like to do the same for Valentine's,  so if you have any items that would be suitable for the raffle,  they would be greatly appreciated.

Also,  Can we do the DESSERT BUFFET POTLUCK again?  The Timeout prefers that we don't do regular entrees and that's fair.  Their menu is good and  reasonably priced.  I eat there most weeks,  usually early in the evening before the crowd arrives.  What sort of Desserts are appropriate for Valentines?  Fluffy,  Creamy,  Colorful,  Yummy.................  It's almost midnight and if I don't keep focused,  I'll be raiding the Cookie Jar.

Moving right along - trying to put all thoughts of  C--o--o--k--i--e--s out of my head.  Rhonda took some pictures at Christmas and I've posted them on our Website.  Talking of which.  The Website is way behind - way out-of-date - mainly because I'm short of time.  But also because there are only a small handful of people who visit it.  I'm firming up the DJ schedule in the next few days and will post that on the web.  Rhonda's Christmas photo's are on a hidden page because that was the quickest way to get them posted.  Don't have to put links from other pages you see.  The Link to Rhonda's pictures is - http://www.southcountycountry.com/rhondaindex.html  and you can click on it,  or copy and paste it into your browser.  The regular entry for the Website is http://www.southcountycountry.com/

When I set up the site,  it was my first attempt.  Although I'm pleased with the result,  it takes a while for the pages to load.  Not good for people with normal connections!  I need to make changes to the graphic elements and some of the headings to address this.  And also,  the way that I set it up makes it unnecessarily time consuming when making updates.  I was "reading the manual"  last night and now understand where I went wrong!  Of course,  I could have read the manual first!   Well,  you know - - - It's a guy thing.  I do read maps though.  And I'm pretty sure I have asked for directions - of course,  if I have NEVER been lost.  I wouldn't need to - - - Right!

A couple of weeks back,  I asked if you thought It would be a good idea to put together a list of our favorite line-dances,  old and new.  That way we could focus on making sure we can teach and refresh the dances we really care about.  It's nice learning new ones,  but if we can't refresh this week what we learnt last week,  they never get embedded in our memories.  I got a few responses,  but could use a few more.

Thanks to Vickie for teaching some fun dances.  Now if someone will write a one-wall eight count dance,  I could teach that!

Last year,  a group of us got together for a couple of trips to The Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.  Mark organized it and part of the fun was taking the train down from San Juan Capistrano.  And today,  a dozen of us met at Original Mike's to have dinner and listen to Phil Shane.  Rhonda organized it and it was a great success.  Good food,  good friends in an interesting environment.  The perfect way to spend an evening.  There is such a shortage of local venues for Country Music and Dance that we are much more likely to have to travel considerable distances to dance.  Is there any interest in Van/Car pooling to the more distant places?

I got some news from DJ GoldenMike regarding future events.  Thanks Mike!  I'll post these a little closer to the date.  Also from Mike an update on Allan and Chrissy.  They are back at Khoury's in Long Beach on Tuesdays beginning Feb. 7th.  6-10pm.  (562)598-6800 for directions.  And they are still at the Saddle Sore Saloon in Norco, Wednesdays and Fridays.

That's it for now.  Have a super week and I hope to see you out-and-about..
